As with any other business, an MLM business requires a huge amount of organization to allow the distributor to concentrate on creating contacts, presenting their business and products, following up and training. These are after all, the most important activities in a network marketing business. All other activities are secondary and should support these primary activities. But often these secondary activities, although necessary, can take over and distract us. Even worse, it becomes easy to use these secondary activities as a way to procrastinate. Lets face it, unless you are someone with a choloric personality, making phone calls, prospecting and in particular, following up can be remarkably difficult. It often is even for these personality types.
Time Consuming Secondary Activities
These secondary activities include tasks like
- keeping track of who and when to follow up:
- after a presentation
- after giving out information
- to see how the products went
- a general catchup to build relationship
- keeping track of
- who has information that I’ve given out
- what information do I need to give next
- what is the next step for a particular person
- what events are coming up
- what events do I need to share with whom
- integrating what my upline has been doing in my business with what I’ve been doing in my business
- integrating what I’ve been doing in a downline leg with what my downline leg has been doing
- keeping Lists – contacts, team members, business builders, product users, on hold etc.
- promoting people through different stages of development e.g contact -> prospect -> seen the business / products -> on hold or signed up as product user or signed up as business builder etc.
- Keeping a track of what stage everyone is at and what to do with them next e.g. information, events, upline contact, training etc.
- Library of techniques, information etc.
- Organizing my daily to do list
- Organizing my appointments
- Emailing
The above list is just a fraction of the myriad of organizational tasks associated with a network marketing business. A great deal of the frustration involved in the above activities involves finding the information you need in a timely fashion. I found that most distributors including my upline get by through using the tools that come standard with a computer whether it be Mac or PC i.e. calendar, address book, email and a spreadsheet. I found that these just didn’t organize things well enough and I was still spending far too much time trying to get organized.
What is the Solution?
The only real solution I could think of was to find some multi level marketing software that was specifically designed for network marketing that would handle all of these other mundane tasks and provide the information I needed at hand when I needed it. When I Googled network marketing software, MLM software and multi level marketing software, all I got were the companies that produced software for the MLM companies themselves, not for their distributors. There were a couple that appeared to be something along the lines I was looking for but even these had a starting price tag of over US$250 per month and were more about providing the magic bullet that would solve all of your network marketing woes by creating a downline for you in no time
. Anyone who has been in network marketing for a reasonable amount of time will know that software simply can’t do that for you.
Multi Level Marketing Software as the Solution
So I came to the conclusion that something needed to be done. That I needed to create multi level marketing software designed specifically for organizing the MLM distributor. That was five years ago. Since then I’ve been married, had a child and continued to run my own business but have not actually got around to starting this project. One of the main reasons for this is I usually do projects that have been commissioned in some way by someone else – so I had a definite market to start with. This project on the other hand relies on my belief that there are enough people out there who believe as I do and would benefit from something like this.
